Specialty Clinics
Eighteen pediatric specialties are currently being seen at the Centers for Children in Lowell. The Regional Clinics are held once a week on Wednesdays. Weekly clinics in Northwest Arkansas include Adolescent Medicine, Pulmonology and Cardiology. The remainder of the clinics rotate on a once a month to every other month rotation. Below is a list of the clinics currently providing service or scheduled to provide service at the Centers for Children in Northwest Arkansas. Adolescent Medicine
The Adolescent Medicine Clinic provides a wide range of care for adolescents: wellness, general medicine, gynecology, sports medicine, athletic training, sports physical therapy, substance abuse and eating disorders. The program uses a multidisciplinary approach, including psychology/social work.

Asthma
The General Asthma clinic accepts children 2 years of age or older with suspected or confirmed asthma. Services include comprehensive medical evaluation, pulmonary function testing, chest radiography, and when indicated "Immuno-cap Rast" screening for suspected food allergens, and common aeroallegens.
Comprehensive patient and family education are integral to the services offered by the asthma clinic in addition to communication to our patients' primary care providers regarding our recommendations. When indicated, additional evaluation may also be recommended in coordination with the respective primary care physician, in the Centers for Children Pulmonary Clinic, and/or the Centers for Children Allergy/Immunology Clinic.

Cardiology
The General Pediatric Cardiology Clinic provides consultation and diagnosis of children with possible heart conditions. Follow-up is provided for children with known cardiac problems. Other clinics available at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock include an arrhythmia clinic, a transplant clinic, a pacemaker clinic, and an adult congenital heart disease clinic.
Non-invasive cardiac procedures available are X-ray, ECG, ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter scanning), transtelephonic ECG recording, and full service echocardiography with on-line supervision and reading by a pediatric cardiologist.

Endocrinology
The Endocrinology subspecialty clinic evaluates and treats children with short stature, diabetes, disorders of the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands.

Gastroenterology
The Gastroenterology Clinic provides consultation and a full range of services for patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and nutritional problems. These include diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, biliary tract and pancreas, including inflammatory bowel disease, malabsorption syndromes, hepatitis, growth failure, malnutrition and feeding disorders.

Growth and Development
The Growth and Development Clinic evaluates and assists in the management of children in the first three years of life who display abnormalities in growth and/or development. Such problems may include failure to thrive, developmental delay, the array of developmental disabilities and feeding problems associated with chronic medical problems.

Hematology
The Hematology/Oncology Clinic provides diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of childhood problems related to blood and/or tumors, such as anemia, thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorders, leukemia and other malignant diseases.

Hemophilia
Patients with coagulation disorders can be diagnosed and evaluated by a group of physicians, physical therapists, dentists, psychologists and geneticists to provide education, prevention and continuity of care. The Hemophilia Clinic offers the latest diagnosis, prevention and treatment modalities for children and adults.

Immunology
The Immunology Clinic accepts referrals for assessment and treatment of children or adults with suspected abnormal immune systems and patients with known immune deficiencies. The most common diagnostic categories include: family history of immune deficiency, recurrent and chronic infection (especially upper respiratory infections and sinusitis), skin infections, boils and abscesses, pneumonia, meningitis, osteomyelitis, angioedema.

Nephrology
Diagnostic evaluations and care are provided to children from infancy to age 21 who have all aspects of renal disease. Consultation involving hematuria, proteinuria, urinary tract infection, chronic renal failure, hyptertension and transplantation is available at all times. Dialysis and transplantation, if needed, is also provided in Little Rock at Arkansas Children's Hospital. A team of nurses, nutritionists and social workers augments the pediatric nephrologists.

Neurology
The Neurology Clinic is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the peripheral and central nervous system. Patients with seizures or epilepsy receive comprehensive evaluations.

Psychology & Eating Disorders
The Adolescent Eating Disorders Clinic at the Centers for Children in Northwest Arkansas is a multi-disciplinary specialty clinic treating a variety of eating disorders. Through specialized outpatient services to children, adolescents and families, the Psychology and Eating Disorders Clinic works on prevention and treatment of problematic eating behaviors including anorexia and bulimia.
With patient and family involvement and compliance with the treatment protocol, recovery from an eating disorder is possible. This clinic has seen many patients progress to wellness and recovery.

Pulmonology
The Pulmonary Clinic provides comprehensive medical evaluation and management of acute and chronic pulmonary diseases in infants and children, including children with asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, recurrent pneumonia and wheezing, stridor, noisy breathing, pulmonary complications of neuromuscular disease and technology-dependent children. State-of-the-art complete pulmonary function testing, sweat testing and flexible bronchoscopy services are available.

Rehabilitative Medicine
The Pediatric Habilitation Clinic provides comprehensive specialty medical services for children, adolescents and selected adults with physical disabilities and their families. We work with the Arkansas State Children’s Medical Services (CMS) staff; a representative is usually in each clinic, as well as local durable medical vendor representatives. Nutritionists and a social worker also cover this clinic regularly. Depending on availability, we may be able to coordinate same-day appointments for interdisciplinary evaluation and treatment by PT, OT, audiology, orthotics and prosthetics, and various radiologic evaluations. We also coordinate other necessary subspecialty referrals and appointments as conveniently as possible.
Areas addressed typically include educational and therapy programs; feeding, swallowing, nutrition and oral health; seating and mobility; spasticity management; communication; gait analysis; and walking aids such as braces, crutches and walkers. We cooperate with outside agencies and referral sources to provide for coordination of care as much as possible. Outside therapists and/or teachers are welcome to attend with children and families when appropriate.

Rheumatology
Children with arthritis and other connective tissue diseases (including systemic lupus erythematosus, dertmatomyositis, etc.) and autoimmune or immune-mediated disorders, are treated in the Rheumatology Clinic. The clinic provides comprehensive evaluation and management including rehabilitative services.

Surgery (pre and post op)
The Surgery Clinic manages all neonatal and pediatric surgical disorders including hydroceles, hernia, undescended testes, chest wall abnormalities, thoracic problems, abdominal surgery, tumors and other surgical problems of children. Areas of expertise include robotics, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and neonatal surgery.
Note: These clinics are available to your child by physician referral. Talk with your child’s physician and tell him/her you would like to be referred to the Centers for Children.
